CPC Delegation Visits Bangladesh

 

A six-member delegation from the Communist Party of China (CPC), under the leadership of Mr. Wang Jiarui, Minister, International Department visited Bangladesh on a goodwill trip from 6 – 9 February 2006. The visit took place at the invitation of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). During the visit, Mr. Wang Jiarui paid a courtesy call on the Hon’ble Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia. The delegation also called on the Hon’ble Minister for LGRD and Secretary General of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Mr. Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan, the Hon’ble Foreign Minister Mr. M. Morshed Khan, MP and Hon’ble Deputy Speaker of the Bangladesh Parliament Mr. Akhter Hamid Siddiqui. The CPC delegation appreciated the excellent friendly relations existing between Bangladesh and China, and underscored the need for forging close working relations with the major political parties in Bangladesh towards further deepening and strengthening the bilateral ties. The CPC delegation was briefed about the various measures undertaken by the present Government to attain economic progress and ensure good governance in the country. The CPC delegation lauded the Government efforts and assured of continued Chinese cooperation with accent on infrastructure development in Bangladesh.  The CPC delegation exchanged views with Bangladesh's political leadership about the importance of enhancing road connectivity between the two countries. The delegation appreciated Bangladesh’s strict adherence to the One-China policy and observed that Bangladesh and China shared common perceptions on a number of issues of international and regional concern.  Talking to the Bangladeshi media, the Chinese Minister said, “The Message we want to send is that we have a friendly relationship with Bangladesh and it will be strengthened further. China would remain a good friend of Bangladesh.” The Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Mr. Cai Xi and the Director General of Bureau I of the CPC International Department Mr. Ai Ping were present during the meetings.
