The Bangladesh Embassy in Beijing held a flag hoisting and discussion programme to commemorate the Language Martyrs’ Day and the International Mother Language Day on 21 February 2006 at the Chancery. The day’s programme commenced with the hoisting of the National Flag to half-mast by the Bangladesh Ambassador to China Mr. Ashfaqur Rahman. At the outset of the discussion programme, the officers of the Embassy read out the Messages given on the occasion by the Hon’ble President, Hon’ble Prime Minister and Hon’ble Foreign Minister.

In his speech, the Ambassador paid glowing tributes to the memory of the language martyrs. He called upon the officers and staff of the Mission as well as the Bangladeshi community in Beijing to perform their individual responsibilities with diligence in order to uphold the image and prestige of the country. He urged the expatriate community to ensure proper Bangla language education for their children. Mr. Mohiuddin Taher, Foreign Expert, China Radio International Bangla Service spoke briefly on the occasion. The programme was conducted by Mr. Monirul Islam, Counsellor and Head of Chancery.
